Panasonic, the Highest Rating Japanese Company in Global 500 CDP 2012

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) announced in London its tenth survey results on the world's largest companies in regard to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and strategies for climate change on September 12, 2012. Panasonic has been highly scored for its disclosure and environmental performance, being listed in both the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) and the Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI).

The CDP is an independent not-for-profit organization which represents 655 institutional investors with $78 trillion in assets under management. The survey highlights climate change related issues and covers the largest corporations worldwide including companies in the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (Global 500).

Based on the responses given, the companies which have displayed the most professional approach to corporate governance regarding climate change information disclosure practices are listed in the CDLI. In addition, CPLI, highlighting companies which have demonstrated commitment to emissions reduction in particular.

In 2012, 405 of the Global 500 companies disclosed their information to the CDP. The CDP selected 51 of those companies for the CDLI, and 33 for the CPLI. Panasonic is the only Japanese company listed in both the CDLI and the CPLI. In addition, Panasonic is featured in the world's top ten companies for disclosure and performance. This is the fifth time Panasonic has been in the CDLI, previous occasions being 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, and the second time in the CPLI, previous occasion being 2010.

Exercising open environmental sustainability management which makes the "environment" central to all its business activities, Panasonic aims to become the No.1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry in the year 2018, the 100th anniversary of its founding.
